Kremlev, who funded part of Donald Trump Jr.’s recent wedding, is a “fixer”
with a criminal past, Russian political analyst Ivan Preobrazhensky told NV on
Sept. 16.
“Umar Kremlev is, to use contemporary Kremlin terminology, a ‘fixer,” Preobrazhensky said.
“He is a man with a fairly criminal past who is formally connected to sports and boxing and heads a [boxing] federation.”
Preobrazhensky said Kremlev is connected to several criminal groups, although it is difficult to determine which one is most important to him.
“On the one hand, he is friends with Viktor Zolotov, Putin’s former head of security and the head of the Russian National Guard,” the analyst said.
“The National Guard took an active part in combat operations at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and continues to fight alongside the Russian military on Ukrainian territory.”
“Since Zolotov himself is friends with Ramzan Kadyrov, Umar Kremlev is also connected to Kadyrov’s clan,” he added.
“Although he is not directly part of it, as far as I understand, he is generally friendly with all the main Caucasian clans surrounding Vladimir Putin.”
Preobrazhensky added that Kremlev had participated in Russia’s public life as a sponsor or organizer of various events and initiatives.
“In this case, he is apparently acting as the Kremlin’s overseer for the younger generation of the Trump family,” the analyst said.
On Sept. 14, ProPublica reported that Kremlev helped
finance Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding. The celebration took place May 24 in the
Bahamas and was attended by several Russian nationals.
