Trump claims he could end Ukraine war in 24 hours, appreciates Putin’s support
Former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his gratitude for the recent support he has received from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and claimed he could achieve peace in Ukraine in a day during an interview aired by U.S. news channel NBC News on Sept. 15.
During the Eastern Economic Forum in
Vladivostok, Russia, Putin said he was pleased with Trump’s previous remarks,
in which the former president pledged to “resolve all burning issues within
several days, including the Ukrainian crisis.”
“I like that he (Putin) said that. Because
that means what I’m saying is right,” said Trump.
“I would get him into a room. I’d get
(Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelenskyy into a room. Then I’d bring them
together. And I’d have a deal worked out.”
In the NBC interview, Trump confidently
claimed that if he were re-elected as president, he would solve the war problem
within 24 hours, but did not provide any details of his plan, saying it might
interfere with his deal making.
“If I tell you exactly, I lose all my
bargaining chips,” Trump said. “I mean, you can’t really say exactly what you’re
going to do. But I would say certain things to Putin. I would say certain
things to Zelenskyy.”
Despite persistent questioning by the
journalist, Trump gave no clear strategy for ending the conflict.
When asked whether he would allow the
Kremlin to retain Ukrainian territory that Russian forces had illegally seized
by force, he responded that he would “make a fair deal for everyone.”
The vast majority of Ukrainians – around
84% according to recent polling – are against peace talks with Russia until
Moscow has removed all of its invasion forces from Ukrainian territory,
including Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula, up to Ukraine’s internationally
recognized borders of 1991.
NBC added that Trump continues to lead in
Republican polls as the frontrunner for the 2024 U.S. presidential race.
Putin also commended Elon Musk, the founder
of Tesla and SpaceX, as a talented and exceptional individual, on Sept. 12.
Earlier, a scandal had erupted over whether Musk had foiled a Ukrainian attack
on the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol by denying the Ukrainian Armed Forces
access to his Starlink satellite Internet service.
Putin also dismissed the investigation
against former U.S. President Donald Trump as “politically motivated
persecution.”
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
