Poland suspends operations at two major airports following Russian airstrikes in western Ukraine

Poland issued air raid alerts across several districts in two provinces and temporarily suspended operations at the Rzeszów and Lublin airports on the morning of September 16 following Russian airstrikes in western Ukraine, according to the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
The Polish military scrambled aircraft around 8:00 a.m. local time and placed ground-based defense systems on high alert in response to Russian strike drones flying near the border in western Ukraine.
Air raid alerts were subsequently issued in parts of the Subcarpathian and Lublin voivodeships, including the border cities of Przemyśl, Rzeszów, and Lublin.
The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) confirmed that flight operations at both the Lublin and Rzeszów airports were temporarily suspended.
An air raid alert was declared in the Kovel district at 7:48 a.m., with the Ukrainian Air Force and military monitoring channels tracking Russian attack drones moving directly toward the area around 8:00 a.m.
A Russian drone struck a passenger train two kilometers from the Polish border in Ukraine's Volyn Oblast on September 13. Ukrainian Railways stated there were no casualties from the attack.
The drone raid triggered an emergency evacuation of high-level European delegates departing Ukraine. The passengers included Boris Johnson, European government security advisers, German Bundestag members, diplomats, and academics. Rail operators brought the train to a precautionary halt before the attack.
Ukrainian Railways confirmed that the diplomatic train departed Yahodyn station shortly before the locomotive was hit. Meanwhile, former CIA Director David Petraeus was aboard a second train stopped at the station at the exact moment of the attack. Railway officials noted they could not rule out that the jet-powered strike drone was deliberately hunting the train carrying international diplomats, which had departed ahead of schedule due to incoming UAV warnings.
A terminal section at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport was evacuated on the evening of September 15 after an unattended suitcase triggered a security alert. Police received a report of the suspicious luggage shortly before 7:00 p.m., prompting the Border Guard to deploy a bomb squad to inspect the bag.
