UK’s Cameron urges focus on Ukraine despite unfolding events in Middle East
Ukraine's partners should concentrate on aiding the country's fight against Russian aggression, despite ongoing conflict in Israel, argued UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron in an interview with Sky News on Dec. 7.
“We know that with Putin, if you don't stop him here, he will come back for more, and on the sidelines, enemies of America will be cheering,” the UK's top diplomat explained.
The Ukraine war is "the struggle of our generation" which threatens the security of the entire continent, Cameron said, though he voiced his disagreement with the view that the United States would become a “less reliable” ally if the U.S. Congress did not vote for a multi-billion aid package, including funding for Ukraine.
The money is “so badly” needed by Kyiv, but the issue has been complicated by politics, he explained.
The world's focus on the Israel-Hamas conflict has slowed down the delivery of artillery shells to Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated earlier.
The Biden Administration urged Congress of the need to approve tens of billions of dollars for military and economic aid to Ukraine on Dec. 4.
Democrats in the U.S. Senate introduced a $111 billion national security package, including aid to Ukraine and Israel, as well as funding for security for the southern border on Dec. 6.
However, the bill was blocked in a procedural vote by Republicans on Dec 7.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
