UK to send Ukraine 350 anti-air missiles funded by Russian cash
Ukraine will receive 350 ASRAAM anti-air missiles (U.S. designation AIM-132) from the UK, paid for by revenues derived from the frozen assets of Russia’s Central Bank, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said on June 25.
Valued at GBP70 million ($95 million), the missiles were converted to be compatible with Raven ground launch vehicles. London will also send five additional Raven launchers, which were designed by UK engineers specifically for the Ukrainian military.
The purchase is part of the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) program, which has raised more than GBP2 billion ($2.7 billion) from returns on frozen Russian assets. Umerov thanked the UK government and all international partners supporting Ukraine.
Conceived by G7 countries, the ERA is expected to provide Ukraine with approximately $50 billion in loans collateralized by income from frozen Russian assets. The funds are directed at supporting Ukraine’s budget, meeting military needs, and rebuilding critical infrastructure.
