UK Defense Secretary pledges faster military aid to Ukraine

UK Defense Secretary John Healey announced plans to accelerate the delivery of military aid to Ukraine at a press conference with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in Berlin on July 24.
"It is in the interest of every European nation that Ukraine prevails, that [Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin fails," said UK Defense Secretary John Healey.
"If he wins in Ukraine, he will not stop at Ukraine. So, the defense of Europe and security starts in Ukraine."
Two days after his appointment, Healey visited Odesa and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team.
"I went there to pledge that we will speed up the aid the UK has already promised," Healey said. "We will do that within 100 days."
The UK will "step up" with extra ammunition, guns, boats, and battlefield equipment needed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the front lines, he said.
Healey confirmed the UK government's plan to commit £3 billion ($3.9 billion) in military aid to Ukraine this year and each subsequent year. London will assist allies in increasing their support for Ukraine "to ensure that Ukraine prevails."
Ukraine and the UK signed an agreement on July 19 between their governments for loan support in defense capabilities. The agreement enables UK suppliers to enter into loan agreements and contracts with Ukraine for £2 billion (almost $2.6 billion), with a possibility of increase.
Labour Party leader Keir Starmer became the new Prime Minister of the UK, replacing Rishi Sunak on July 5. Starmer thanked the voters in his speech. He then announced the composition of his government. David Lammy was appointed as Foreign Secretary, and John Healey as Defense Secretary. Both politicians are supporters of Ukraine and have previously visited Kyiv. They pledged to maintain the UK's "ironclad" commitment to supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia.
