Ukraine’s SBU nabs Russian agent trying to disrupt Ukrainian counter-offensive near Bakhmut
Ukraine’s SBU security service has exposed a Russian agent who was trying to disrupt the Ukrainian military counter-offensive near the war-torn town of Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, the agency reported on July 11.
The perpetrator collected data about the whereabouts and relocation of Ukrainian army units in the town of Kramatorsk, Donetsk Oblast.
He also tried to track the movement routes of Ukrainian armored vehicles involved in the counter-offensive.
The traitor remotely transmitted the received data to a member of Russia’s Donetsk Oblast puppet authority.
The Russian agent was detained while performing one of the tasks of his supervisors.
He turned out to be a 48-year-old local resident who, on his own initiative, had offered the Russian invaders his help in the war against Ukraine.
In order to collect intelligence, the traitor involved two more local residents who were secretly monitoring the locations of Ukrainian defenders.
The detainee has been charged with providing assistance to the armed forces of the aggressor state in conducting hostilities against the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and other military formations.
If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
