Ukraine to build national military cemetery near Kyiv
The Ukrainian government has chosen a site
in Hatne, Kyiv Oblast, to host the National
Military Cemetery, Ukrainian PM Denys Shmyhal announced on March 15.
“The establishment of this facility carries immense significance for our nation,” said Shmyhal.
“We must always honor the memory of those who have sacrificed their lives for Ukraine in our fight for freedom and independence.”
According to the government’s website, the transfer of over 265 hectares of land for the project is anticipated shortly, with the initial construction phase to follow.
The Ukrainian parliament passed legislation to establish the National Military Cemetery on Dec. 8, 2023.
The Ministry of Veterans Affairs has previously unveiled a preliminary design for the cemetery, asserting that it incorporated elements from internationally recognized memorials, including the Arlington National Cemetery in the United States.
Dnipro architect Serhiy Derbin is the principal designer behind the concept.
Plans for the broader complex include a ceremonial plaza, a house of mourning, chapels, a crematorium, and a museum.
