Ukraine, US agree to expand military aid oversight
The United States and Ukraine have agreed
to expand the monitoring of how Western
weapons are used in Ukraine, including regular inventories, joint
inspections, and special audits, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported on Nov.
27.
The ministry signed a corresponding document with the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.
The agreement involves joint oversight with foreign partners on the presence, record-keeping, and compliance with the conditions of storage and deployment of the weapons supplied to Ukraine.
Ukrainian military officials are already conducting inventories at bases and depots throughout Ukraine, notes the ministry.
In this way, the ministry "will ensure additional transparency regarding the storage and use of foreign weapons." Some missiles, drones, launchers, and other U.S. armaments require monitoring and special storage conditions, the message adds.
The United States will be assured that the supplied weapons "will not fall into the wrong hands," while Ukraine, in turn, will improve its reputation, becoming "a model of transparency," said Deputy Defense Minister Yuriy Gusev.
