NATO Chief Stoltenberg hopes for Ukraine membership within ten years

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg hopes Ukraine will become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance within the next decade, the DW reported on July 5.
"[Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin believes that he can wait us out," he said in an interview with dpa.
"We must demonstrate that that's not the case, which will pave the way for ending the war."
Stoltenberg called for increased military aid to Kyiv ahead of the NATO summit in Washington. He expressed confidence that Putin is employing delaying tactics in hopes of weakening Western support for Ukraine.
NATO Summit in Washington
The 75th anniversary NATO summit will take place in Washington from July 9-11, 2024.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope in January for two key outcomes: the delivery of new air defense systems and concrete steps toward Ukraine’s NATO membership.
At the NATO summit held in Vilnius on July 11-12, 2023, leaders from 31 NATO countries, along with delegations from Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Ukraine, and Sweden, were in attendance. President Zelenskyy was also present.
Ukraine will join the alliance without a Membership Action Plan (MAP) and will receive an invitation once allies agree and conditions are met, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on July 11.
Stoltenberg invited President Zelenskyy to the Washington summit in April, but expressed doubts that Ukraine will receive an invitation to join NATO this time.
