Ukrainian army ousts Russian occupiers from positions near Avdiivka - General Staff

Ukraine's Armed Forces knocked Russian occupants from their positions south of Avdiivka in Donetsk Oblast, a spokesperson for Ukraine's General Staff, Pavlo Kovalchuck said.
"During the Defense Forces' assault, the enemy was forced to withdraw from positions south of Avdiivka," Military Media Center quoted Kovalchuck as saying on its Telegram channel on August 2.
The Ukrainian army continues to storm Russian positions south of Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast.
Kovalchuck added that Russians conducted fruitless attempts to regain the lost positions to the north and to the west of Klishchiivka, as well as to the northwest of Kurdiumivka.
Defense forces continue to deter Russian offensive actions near Kupyansk and Lyman.
Ukrainian counteroffensive: The latest news
The newest thrust of Ukraine’s counteroffensive is toward Ukraine’s southeast, The New York Times reported on July 27. The counteroffensive operation is complicated with large areas of mined land and relentless enemy artillery fire.
Ukrainian defenders described the initial phase of the operation as “chaos”, reported the Financial Times, adding that Kyiv has changed tactics to avoid heavy losses.
The Ukrainian army liberated almost 15 square km in the south and east over the past week. It advanced about 2 km in the Bakhmut direction and about 12.6 km in the south.
In total, Ukraine has liberated almost 242 square kilometers in the last counteroffensive operation.
Russian occupiers continue to do everything to stop Ukraine’s advance in the Bakhmut area, to no avail, said Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar.
