Ukrainian, German top military officials discuss ‘maritime coalition’

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov and the head of Germany’s armed forces, Major General Carsten Breuer have met in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv to discuss, among other things, defense cooperation and a “maritime coalition” to boost Ukraine’s navy.
The Ukrainian defense minister also reported to the foreign delegation on Ukraine’s experience in fighting enemy drones, He invited Berlin to cooperate in this area as well.
He also called on Germany to join the creation of a “maritime coalition” in support of Ukraine that would strengthen the Ukrainian Navy.
“We already have a ‘tank coalition,’ (and) the Ramstein (format) is also a coalition,” Reznikov said.
“All of them are working for a single goal – the victory of Ukraine. Our joint task is to build a strong system of international security architecture, and the safety of navigation in the Black and Azov Seas is an important element of this system.”
In addition, the officials discussed practical steps to bolster Ukraine’s defense, such as the possibility of expanding training programs for the Ukrainian military in Germany.
In turn, General Breuer said that the Ukrainian soldiers had shown a “high level of professionalism and motivation” during their training in Germany. He assured Reznikov that Berlin would continue supporting Ukraine “as much as is required.”
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on April 27 that 98% of the promised Western combat vehicles had already been delivered to Ukraine and Kyiv “now has the military capabilities it needs to recapture territory.”
He said the deliveries of arms included more than 1,550 armored vehicles, over 230 tanks, and other equipment — including a “huge amount” of ammunition.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
