Ukrenergo urges consumers to reduce electricity consumption in peak hours
As Russia continues to target Ukraine's
energy infrastructure with missile strikes, power grid operator Ukrenergo
has called on citizens to reduce their electricity consumption during peak
evening hours, the company said on April 11.
The message said that recent Russian attacks have damaged many thermal and hydroelectric power plants, which are essential for quickly ramping up energy production in the morning and evening when demand surges.
Ukrenergo notes that Ukraine’s power grid can safely operate if generation and consumption remain in balance.
“At the moment, the production side weighs significantly less than it did just yesterday before the attack,” the message reads.
“To maintain equilibrium, we need to lighten the load of consumption.”
They also request that Ukrainians refrain from using high-powered electrical devices from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Earlier on April 11, Russia launched another missile barrage at Ukraine, targeting power generation and distribution facilities across the country. In particular, the Trypilska TPP in Kyiv Oblast was completely destroyed in the attack.
