A significant power outage swept through Russia's Belgorod Oblast on July 1, leaving numerous towns, including the city of Belgorod, Stary Oskol, and Volokonovka, in darkness, according to Belgorod Oblast Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.

The outage, which affected up to 90% of the region, was reportedly concentrated in the Graivoron city district. Russian Telegram channel Mash reported the extensive reach of the blackout.
Allegedly, the blackout was triggered by a coordinated Ukrainian drone attack and the detonation of explosives at several power substations.
The disruption led to widespread chaos, including non-functional traffic lights in Belgorod and internet service interruptions, stated by RIA Novosti, a Russian state news agency.
Additionally, the neighboring Voronezh Oblast also experienced power outages, impacting areas such as Liski, Ostrogozhsk, Kantemirovka, and Kamensk and affecting around 20,000 residents.
This power failure comes on the heels of a report by The Washington Post earlier on the same day, which disclosed that at least 38 unexploded glide bombs had been dropped over the Belgorod region from April 2023 to April 2024.
