President Joe Biden announced a new $225 million military aid package for Kyiv during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris, CNN correspondent Natasha Bertrand reported on Twitter on June 7.
Zelenskyy thanked Biden for another package to boost Ukraine's defense capabilities.
Biden apologized for the delay in passing the aid package in Congress earlier this year and assured that the U.S. will continue to support Ukraine.
The presidents met in France on the sidelines of ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings. The White House had previously announced that the presidents would meet at least twice in the coming days, with the second meeting expected at the G7 summit in Italy on June 13-15.
This follows an earlier Associated Press report on the same day of a new $225 million U.S. military aid package, including HIMARS ammunition, mortar systems, and artillery.
The weapons in the new American package can be used by the defense forces to counter "threats inside Russia and protect Kharkiv from brazen Russian attacks."
