U.S. drones conducting reconnaissance 120 km from occupied Crimea, suggesting potential Ukrainian action
U.S. reconnaissance drones are alternating shifts over the
Black Sea, the Crimean Wind
monitoring group reported on Telegram on April 1.
According to the tracking portal Flightradar, a Northrop Grumman RQ-4B Global Hawk UAV, with the call sign FORTE10, has been conducting reconnaissance about 120-140 kilometers away from the temporarily occupied Crimean coast throughout the night. It is now returning to NATO's Sigonella air base in Sicily.
Another similar drone, with the call sign FORTE11, is flying from Sigonella towards FORTE10.
The purpose of these drones is to identify air defense areas and gather information on how Russian forces react in combat situations.
This type of reconnaissance often precedes attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on targets in Crimea, which has been annexed by Russia.
