Zelenskyy introduces multiple citizenship legislation to parliament

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted a bill on multiple citizenship to the Ukrainian parliament on Aug. 7, according to the parliament’s website.
The bill describes acceptable instances of multiple citizenship for holders of Ukrainian passports and sets grounds for people to be stripped of Ukrainian citizenship. This includes voluntarily applying for citizenship of an aggressor state.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba previously stated that the Ukrainian Constitution does not explicitly prohibit dual or multiple citizenship as such.
During a meeting with the Ukrainian diaspora in the United States on Sept. 22, 2023, Zelenskyy assured that he would regulate dual citizenship by law.
The president initially submitted a dual citizenship bill in December 2019, and a bill on multiple citizenship in December 2021, but those iterations ultimately went nowhere.
