Zelenskyy and Trump hold 50-minute meeting at NATO summit
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President
Donald Trump concluded their meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit on
June 25. The conversation lasted roughly 50 minutes, according to Suspilne.
Zelenskyy described the meeting as substantive and said it
covered all major topics.
“A long and meaningful meeting with President Trump. We
touched on all truly significant issues. I thank Mr. President, I thank the
United States,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
He added that the two had discussed securing a ceasefire,
achieving a lasting peace, and protecting Ukraine’s civilian population.
“We appreciate the attention and willingness to help bring
peace closer. Details — to follow,” Zelenskyy said.
Earlier reports indicated Trump was expected to meet with
all 32 NATO leaders during the summit in The Hague, including Zelenskyy.
Trump later confirmed he would meet with the Ukrainian
president.
The NATO summit is taking place in The Hague on June 24–25 —
the first to be chaired by the alliance’s new secretary-general, former Dutch
Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Western media suggest the Middle East may dominate
the agenda, while Russia’s war against Ukraine could take a back seat.
