No need to mobilize 500,000 people into the military, says Zelenskyy

Ukraine does not need to mobilize “half a million people,” Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a press conference in Kyiv on April 3, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine news agency. At the same time, the president did not specify how many new recruits the Ukrainian military currently needs.
He also thanked Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi for running an "audit" of Ukraine's Armed Forces, identifying untapped troop reserves Kyiv can now use to rotate out some of its battered units.
"It is important that he [Syrskyi] has found the necessary forces within the Armed Forces; some troops who were never deployed to the front, will be at the front," Zelenskyy said.
While he did not disclose the number of people to be mobilized, Zelenskyy warned that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was preparing an additional mobilization of up to 300,000 men by June 1.
In December 2023, Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine's military leadership had requested the mobilization of an additional 450,000 to 500,000 people, which would cost UAH 500 billion ($12.7 billion).
The then-Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi subsequently said that the military "did not make a specific request for numbers [of troops to be drafted]."
The Ukrainian parliament has been considering the mobilization reform bill since Jan. 30.
