Zelenskyy's approval rating falls from 91% to 63% in one year – survey
A recent survey conducted by the Ukrainian sociological group Rating has shown a decrease in approval ratings for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. While 63% of respondents still support Zelenskyy's leadership, this marks a significant drop from the 91% approval rate recorded in February 2023.
This survey was conducted from Feb. 17-21, 2024, by the Ukrainian "Rating" sociological group and funded by the USAID.
The detailed survey results reveal that 22% of participants "strongly approve" and 41% "rather approve" of Zelenskyy's performance. On the flip side, 33% now disapprove of his actions, a notable increase from 16% the previous year.
Reflecting on the onset of the Russian invasion in April 2022, Zelenskyy's approval was at a peak of 94%. Contrastingly, the current figures illustrate a more scrutinized perspective on his leadership.
Despite this dip, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to garner overwhelming support, with 96% of Ukrainians endorsing their efforts.
As of February 2024, 55% of respondents approved the actions of the police in Ukraine, 47% of local authorities, and 35% of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Interestingly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, has edged out Zelenskyy in approval ratings, securing the backing of 64% of respondents, slightly higher than the president's 63%.
This survey, capturing the sentiments of Ukrainians in government-controlled areas (excluding occupied territories), was conducted from February 17 to 21, 2024, utilizing Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI). The margin of error for the survey is 2.2% at a 95% confidence level.
