● Zelenskyy’s office denies sacking Zaluzhnyi
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not fire Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi, presidential spokesperson Serhiy Nykyforov told reporters on Jan. 29.
● Suspects in attack on journalist’s apartment allege SBU role
A controversial interview with two individuals allegedly involved in the invasion of the apartment of journalist Yuriy Nikolov revealing the possible role of the Security Service of Ukraine(SBU) was published on Jan. 28 in the Zhitomir.city news outlet.
● Ukrainian soldiers on fatigue and need for mobilization
The growing fatigue of Ukrainian troops deployed to combat duty for more than a year is making a further major mobilization wave unavoidable, soldiers of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade told Ukrainian journalist Ramina Eskhakzai on Jan. 29.
● Hungarian FM arrives in Uzhhorod for talks on normalizing relations with Ukraine

● Ukraine, Hungary look to arrange Zelenskyy-Orban meeting
Ukrainian and Hungarian officials have taken a “significant step” toward arranging a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Hungarian PM Viktor Orban, head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, said on Jan. 29.
● EU to impose sanctions on Hungary if it fails to support aid to Ukraine
The European Union has reportedly devised a plan for economic sanctions against Hungary as a means of pressuring the country to lift its veto on aid to Ukraine, the Financial Times has reported.
● SBI serves notice of suspicion to former Berkut commanders for attempt to destroy Maidan murder evidence
The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has issued notices of suspicion against former Berkut commanders who tried to destroy evidence in the murder of protestors during the Revolution of Dignity, the SBI reported on Jan. 29.
● US Inspectors General visit Kyiv to strengthen oversight of aid
Inspectors general from the United States Departments of Defense and State, as well as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) arrived in Kyiv, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink announced on Twitter (X) on Jan. 29.
● Nova Poshta reports further growth, opening nearly 5,000 new branches and self-service kiosks in 2023
The network of Nova Poshta branches and self-service kiosks in Ukraine increased by almost 5,000 outlets in 2023, bringing the total number to 27,050, the delivery giant’s press service reported on Jan. 26.
● Moscow recruits ‘construction brigades’ from Russian students, Ukraine says
Russian “authorities” in occupied Ukrainian territories are setting up so-called “construction brigades,” to be staffed by college students, Ukraine’s National Resistance Center (NRC) reported on Jan. 29.
