Zelenskyy confirms new strikes on oil refinery in Ufa and missile plant in Penza

Ukrainian Defense Forces struck an oil refinery in Ufa, which is one of Russia’s largest producers of lubricants and is located 1,300 kilometers from the frontline, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on July 1.
“For the second time, our sanction responses to Russia's prolongation of the war have reached the oil refinery in Ufa,” Zelenskyy wrote.
Zelenskyy added that Ukrainian forces struck a strategic Russian military facility in Penza Oblast that develops and manufactures components for missiles used in attacks against Ukraine. The targets were located nearly 600 kilometers from the frontline.
“Every day our plan of Ukrainian long-range sanctions is being carried out," he said.
"This is an entirely just response to everything Russia is doing against us,” the head of state said. “Peace is needed, and this is exactly what Russia’s leadership must realize.”
“Russia must end its war. And Russia’s leadership has every opportunity to do so. I thank every Ukrainian warrior who ensures our long-range accuracy,” Zelenskyy concluded.
General Staff later reported that Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out a strike targeting the Research Institute of Physical Measurements in Penza Oblast – Russia’s leading producer of space, aviation, and military instruments. The company is part of the Russian Space Systems holding, which is itself controlled by the state space corporation Roscosmos. The facility manufactures sensors for cruise and ballistic missiles (Iskander, Kalibr, Kh-101), critical avionics components (Su-34, Su-35, Tu-95MS), and military space equipment (reconnaissance satellites).
A large-scale drone attack targeted the Russian city of Penza, causing fires and heavy smoke near a bearing plant. A missile alert was declared in the city before sirens began to wail. Penza residents reported hearing a series of explosions. Local authorities claimed that air defense systems were intercepting the drones.
Drones struck two oil refineries in the Russian city of Ufa, Bashkortostan – 1,400 kilometers from Ukraine – on the morning of June 25.
