Ukraine downs 131 Russian missiles and drones - Air Force

Russian forces attacked Ukraine with a combined arsenal of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and 157 drones, the Air Force reported on Sept. 17.
Overnight into Sept. 17 (beginning from 6 p.m. on Sept. 16), Russian military launched a multi-tiered aerial assault against Ukraine utilizing diverse missile classes, Banderol/Dan-T cruise munitions, and one-way attack drones. The primary axes of the strikes targeted Kyiv, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhya oblasts, according to the official morning situation report from the Ukrainian Air Force Command.
The attacking Russian inventory included:
Onyx anti-ship cruise missiles: Fired from launch positions in Kursk Oblast, Russia.
Ballistic missiles (Iskander-M / S-400 / KN-23): Launched from Bryansk and Voronezh oblasts, Russia.
Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles: Four missiles launched from the Caspian Sea basin.
Banderol / Dan-T low-cost missile-drones: Ten units deployed from air platforms operating over the Azov Sea.
Shahed-type kamikaze drones & Parodiya decoys: 157 UAVs (with turbojet-powered Shahed variants comprising the majority) launched from Oryol and Millerovo in Russia, occupied Donetsk, and Hvardiyske in occupied Crimea.
As of 8 a.m., Ukrainian air defense shot down or electronically suppressed 131 inbound aerial targets:
- 7 Banderol / Dan-T missile-drones;
- 124 unmanned aerial vehicles, comprising Shahed and Gerbera variants alongside other drone systems.
Air Force monitors recorded incoming missile and strike drone impacts across 36 distinct locations, with falling debris from intercepted munitions causing localized damage at five sites.
Impacts in Kyiv and Odesa
Russian forces targeted Kyiv with heavy ballistic missile and drone strikes overnight, with secondary waves of turbojet-powered strike UAVs continuing into Sept. 17 morning. Structural damage from missile impacts and falling fragments was confirmed across the Solomyanskyi, Svyatoshynskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts. The casualty toll in Kyiv rose to 16 civilians injured, including two children.
Russian strikes damaged a multi-story residential building in Odesa, leaving three civilians wounded. The blast demolished residential apartments situated across the 14th, 15th, and 16th floors.
