U.S. announced $2.1 billion military aid package for Ukraine
Ukraine will receive a military aid package totaling $2.1 billion from the United States, the Pentagon reported on June 9.
According to the Pentagon, this aid package falls under the purview of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which allows for the U.S. to purchase arms directly from manufacturers or partner countries. Its announcement indicates that Washington is beginning to sign the corresponding contracts for this deliveries.
In total, the package includes:
• Ammunition for Patriot air defense systems
• HAWK air defense systems and ammunition
• 105mm and 203mm caliber shells
• Puma drones
• Ammunition and laser targeting systems for multiple launch rocket systems
• Support for training, maintenance, etc.
Earlier, on May 31, the Pentagon announced a $300 million aid package for Ukraine, containing ammunition for HIMARS systems, Stinger systems, Avenger surface-to-air air defense systems, and air-launched Zuni rockets. That package is the 39th military aid package that the U.S. has provided to Ukraine.
