Ukraine expects major defense industry growth after the war – PM
The Ukrainian defense
sector will likely experience a “boom” in investment and growth after the
war with Russia ends, Ukrainian PM Denys Shmyhal said at the Ukraine Recovery
Conference in London on June 21.
“European global companies are already considering the possibility of building production sites in Ukraine,” said Shmyhal.
“We anticipate a genuine boom for our defense industry, post-war.”
Shmyhal also highlighted five key sectors the government has identified to underpin the revitalization of the Ukrainian economy: energy — with a focus on gas extraction and storage, as well as hydroelectric generation — agriculture, IT, infrastructure, and the defense industry.
On May 17, German defense contractor Rheinmetall and Ukraine's state-owned defense company, Ukroboronprom, inked a strategic partnership agreement aimed at bolstering Ukraine's defense industry.
On May 30, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held an online meeting with the management of UK defense firm BAE Systems. An agreement was reached to establish a BAE Systems office in Ukraine.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
